Republican Clay Fuller Wins Georgia US House Runoff in MAGA Stronghold

Republican Clay Fuller, endorsed by President Trump, won the Georgia House runoff to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Silicon Review reports on the race that tested Trump's grip on MAGA country ahead of the midterms.

Republican Clay Fuller, a former prosecutor endorsed by President Donald Trump, won a runoff election in Georgia on Tuesday to replace conservative firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to media reports.

Fuller, a former district attorney in northwest Georgia, defeated Shawn Harris, a moderate Democrat and retired Army brigadier general, in the two-way race to represent the state's most conservative district. The victory expands the GOP's slim House majority to 218 seats, with Democrats holding 214 and one independent.

Tuesday's runoff was triggered after no candidate secured an outright majority in a March 10 special election, held after Greene resigned from Congress in January amid a public rupture with Trump. Harris had actually led the first round with 37% of the vote, but a crowded Republican field split the conservative vote.

In the runoff, Fuller secured approximately 57.5% of the vote to Harris's 42.5% a 15-point margin. While a decisive win, the margin was significantly narrower than Greene's 2024 victory over Harris, which stood at nearly 30 points.

The special election drew national attention as a measure of Trump's influence in a district that became synonymous with the MAGA movement. The president had endorsed Fuller early and Greene once one of Trump's most vocal defenders resigned after their bitter falling out.

Fuller, a lieutenant colonel in the Georgia Air National Guard and a White House fellow during Trump's first term, vowed to enact the president's "America First" agenda, focusing on curbing illegal immigration and securing the border.

Georgia's 14th Congressional District is a mostly blue-collar corridor stretching north from Atlanta's suburbs to the Tennessee border. No Democrat had ever received more than 40% of the vote in the district before Harris's performance.

As Clay Fuller secures a narrower-than-expected victory in Georgia's MAGA stronghold, The Silicon Review examines what the 15-point margin signals about Trump's grip on his base and whether Democrats' overperformance in ruby-red districts foreshadows a shifting political tide ahead of the 2026 midterms.
