McLaren Formula 1 Team Reaches 1,000 Races at Monaco Grand Prix

McLaren Formula 1 team became the second constructor after Ferrari to reach 1,000 Grand Prix starts at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Silicon Review reports on the milestone for the defending champions.

The McLaren Formula 1 team celebrated its 1,000th Grand Prix start at the Monaco Grand Prix, becoming only the second constructor after Ferrari to reach the milestone. The team entered the race as defending constructors' and drivers' champions after Lando Norris won his maiden title in 2025.

The milestone was originally planned for the Miami Grand Prix but was delayed after the cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to conflict in the Middle East. McLaren held a heritage showrun in Miami with reigning world champion Lando Norris, teammate Oscar Piastri, and double champions Mika Hakkinen and Emerson Fittipaldi to celebrate the achievement.

Bruce McLaren founded the McLaren Formula 1 team in 1963, and the team made its Grand Prix debut at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. The team claimed its first victory in 1968 in Belgium with Bruce McLaren driving. Since then, McLaren Formula 1 has won 203 races, 13 drivers' championships, and 10 constructors' championships, placing it second only to Ferrari in all-time F1 success.

Former McLaren driver David Coulthard expressed confidence that the team will return to winning ways in 2026 despite a difficult start to the season. He said they are 100 percent back on track and had a very competitive last run out. He said he does not doubt that they will be winning Grands Prix this year.

The McLaren Formula 1 team currently sits third in the constructors' championship after four rounds, 16 points behind Ferrari and 86 points behind leaders Mercedes. Team principal Andrea Stella said the team's focus remains on defending its titles despite the early deficit.
