thesiliconreview-steven-van-till-cofounder-ceo-president-brivo-2018Many businesses across the country and world have adopted cloud-based access control solutions to secure their facilities. Unfortunately, budget restrictions, a lack of understanding of access control benefits, or revenue generating projects take priority. Despite this reality, most are quick to admit that handling keys is a hassle and there is a desire for a deeper look at the true benefits of access control solutions. In this age, a cloud solution provides far more value than a mechanical one.

It comes as no surprise that cloud computing has changed the way businesses operate. What may come as a surprise is how much, particularly as it relates to security, both physical and digital, and access control. Many firms and companies nowadays, provide cloud-based access control and video surveillance products for physical security and internet of things applications.

Brivo is the global leader in cloud physical access control systems. It is a SaaS-focused company that offers centralized security management systems for global enterprises. It offers hosted access control facilities enabling users to control their systems from anywhere in the world through cloud-based technology.

 ‘Securing’ the foundation

Brivo is a privately-held high tech company headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. It was founded in 1999 with the vision to use cloud technology and internet-connected devices (IoT) to control access to physical spaces. Brivo Systems provides cloud-based physical access control and video surveillance systems. It offers cloud solutions, such as Brivo OnAir for iOS and Android that extends access control and video surveillance platform to smartphones, integrating door control, credential management, and live and recorded video to an application.

After refining the technology in 2002 the company focused on commercial security applications by providing the first SaaS-based access control platform to the physical security market. This innovation transformed the experience of physical security management from a cumbersome burden to a simple interaction with one of the company’s web or mobile platforms.

In 2015, Brivo was acquired by Dean Drako, a serial entrepreneur who was named as one of the “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2014” by Goldman Sachs and he currently serves as the Chairman of the Board.

Managing ‘security’ safe and sound

Brivo has succeeded in making the best access control systems in the world at the lowest possible cost for its customers. Its solutions are valued by businesses who want to secure their facilities and manage their physical security with the convenience of cloud technologies and the power of mobile-first solutions.

Brivo Onair, its flagship product, allows its customers to monitor, manage and control their facilities in real-time from anywhere. Brivo Onair Video, an optional component of the Brivo Onair platform that enables to stream and record video directly to the cloud-storage platform using an IP camera connected to the Internet; Brivo Onair for Government, a cloud-based access control solution for government agencies; and hardware, including IP door controllers, expansion chassis, door expansion boards, and expansion boards. The company also offers on-site solutions, including Brivo Onsite Server, an appliance-based access control solution for on-site security storage; and Brivo ACS Onsite, an on-premise access control solution. It serves small businesses, enterprises, and organizations in healthcare and pharmaceutical, education, government, property management, and retail industries worldwide. Brivo also sells its solution exclusively through its authorized channel partners.

It’s a long way ahead

Brivo’s mission is to provide commercial physical security solutions that are simpler and better than any other technology on the market. Though cloud and hosted services are a small percentage of the total sales at present, the future looks bright as many companies are adopting cloud security system for better results. And many exciting changes, trends, and opportunities are presenting themselves at all levels for access control.

“They immediately suggested that we move to a cloud-based system and recommended Brivo Onair. Brivo Onair allows for true multi-site capabilities without running multiple servers and setting up VPN’s to call them individually. Brivo Onair allowed us to connect the access control for all of our seven gyms in one interface. It also has a native integration with the Eagle Eye Networks cloud-based video management system. Together this cloud-based package allows me to have full control of our gyms remotely. I can unlock doors for different gyms all from one system. I can confirm member identities by comparing their ID picture with what’s in the live video feed,”
