Businesses can now List themselves As “Owned/Led/Founded by Women” on Google Maps

Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company announced on March 7th, 2018 that there will be an option to list a business as either “owned”, “led” or “founded” by women on Google Maps, starting from March 8^th, 2018, in celebration of Women’s day.

Users will now see a new option to select if their business is women oriented while describing their businesses, alongside already existing options like availability of Wi-Fi, parking, outdoor seating etc. A permanent female icon will appear on the search listings of these businesses.

The idea took birth as a result of suggestions by Google employees. This concept is in alignment with Google’s last year’s efforts to identify businesses as “friendly” to gay, lesbian, bisexual queer and transgender individuals.

“We strive to organize the world’s information in a way that is inclusive of all people. We’ve added the women-led attribute to empower women-led businesses to succeed online and help people find places to visit using Google Maps and Search,” said Google spokeswoman Liz Davidoff by an email.

Although this is a small step towards accomplishing the bigger goal of saturating women’s safety around the world, it would still serve as a catalyst to the ultimate agenda.
