Alphabet's unit Verily proclaims Study Watch
The Silicon Review
19 April, 2017

Tech giant Google’s arm Alphabet's life sciences part Verily recently made a revelation regarding unveiling a wrist-worn "Study Watch". Designed to collect complex health data in clinical studies, the Study Watch is destined to carry research operations and will be used to work in numerous studies including a multi-year study to distinguish patterns in the series of Parkinson's disease, according to a blog post by Verily team members David He, Tushar Parlikar, and Harry Xiao.

"The ability to passively capture health data is critical to the success of continuous care platforms and clinical research," the post from Alphabet said.

"Study Watch represents another step in our targeted efforts to create new tools for unobtrusive bio-sensing."

The Study Watch emerges styled after a traditional wrist-worn timepiece, and swanked features including long battery life and encryption for stored data.

"Multiple physiological and environmental sensors are designed to measure relevant signals for studies spanning cardiovascular, movement disorders, and other areas," the blog post said.

"Examples include electrocardiogram, heart rate, electrodermal activity, and inertial movements." Blog post added

A part of the Google X lab, Verily is quite known for several huge vision projects such as self-driving cars and internet-service delivered by high-altitude balloons, but later it was spun into an independent unit at Google-parent Alphabet in mid 2015.

The introduction of the amazing Study Watch comes as Apple persists on to improve the capabilities of its smartwatch along with supporting Health Kit and Research Kit software for use by researchers and care providers as well as individuals interested in fitness.

If report by CNBC news has to be believed,  it is been found that in order to augment Apple Watch sensors to observe the blood sugar levels of wearers in what would be measured a diabetes breakthrough, a secret team is working hard on the same.
