Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the popular stand-out brown character amongst a throng of yellow characters, has long since been popular amongst fans for his thick Indian accent and catchy demeanour. Since the beginning of the show, the character has been voiced by popular Hank Azaria who has been under fire for opinions that the character stereotypes Indians. After much discussion with Hank stating that he wouldn’t continue voicing the character unless it receives certain changes, the actor has come to the conclusion that he would stop lending his voice to the show.

"All we know there is I won't be doing the voice anymore, unless there's some way to transition it or something. What they're going to do with the character is their call. It's up to them, and they haven't sorted it out yet. All we've agreed on is I won't do the voice anymore. We all agreed on it. We all feel like it's the right thing and good about it," HankAzaria said after an interview with a discussion panel regarding the issue.
