Space telescope James Webb rev...The world's largest and most powerful space telescope has revealed unprecedented views of Jupiter
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) took pictures of the biggest planet in the solar system in July. The images show giant storms, rings, auroras, and moons surrounding Jupiter in detail that astronomers have described as "incredible." To make the features stand out, the infrared photographs were artificially colored because infrared light is not visible to the human eye.
The $10bn James Webb Space Telescope is an international mission led by NASA with partners from the Canadian Space Agency and the European Space Agency. NASA said that in the standalone view of Jupiter, created from a composite of several images from the telescope, auroras extended to high altitudes above both the northern and southern poles of Jupiter. Light shows in the sky are Auroras caused by the Sun.
The JWST is currently positioned 1.6 million km above the earth and was launched in December 2021. This telescope can detect light that began traveling towards Earth 13 billion years ago, moments after the Big Bang. It is viewed as the successor to the Hubble telescope. The telescope is expected to be a dominant force for discovery for at least the next 20 years.
