Toshiba Group has chosen Wasabi to bolster its data accessibility

Toshiba Group chosen Wasabi
The Silicon Review
21 December, 2023

Currently, 85 percent of Toshiba Group's data is stored on Wasabi

The popular cloud storage startup Wasabi Technologies said that Toshiba Group, one of the top producers of electronics worldwide, has experienced a 30% cost reduction after implementing Wasabi as its cloud storage solution. Currently, 85 percent of Toshiba Group's data is stored on Wasabi. Unused data on its file servers is automatically transferred to Wasabi cloud storage after 30 days, which lowers costs and improves the company's ability to handle rapidly increasing volumes of data. Furthermore, the operational load has decreased with each department's file servers eliminated. Toshiba Group has a 1PB file server, and as data accumulates from day-to-day activities, the volume of data grows by 10% annually.

NetApp on-premise was the file server the company used to store data in the past. On the other hand, increasing on-premise storage ahead of time for future data expansion turned out to be a costly endeavor. Toshiba Group decided to use NTT Communications' Wasabi Tiering for NetApp service instead of making more hardware purchases. With this solution, data that is rarely accessed is automatically moved from NetApp to Wasabi's cloud storage via NetApp's tiering capabilities. Wasabi simplifies, accelerates, secures, and costs less to store data online. Wasabi's ability to integrate within NTT Communications' data centers was crucial for Toshiba Group's distributed file storage in important regions, in addition to its compliance with the cloud parameters of the company.
