Apple Unveils 'Apple Intelligence' AI Features at WWDC 2024

While not unveiling flashy generative AI features, Apple's AI announcements still stunned spectators

During WWDC 2024, Apple poured a big vat of artificial intelligence onto expectant viewers, leaving us drenched in new AI features under the banner of "Apple Intelligence." This year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote was one of Apple’s most groundbreaking, announcing major AI enhancements for iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems slated for release later this year.

While not unveiling flashy generative AI features, Apple's AI announcements still stunned spectators. Apple focused on integrating AI into its apps to simplify daily tasks, categorizing these features as "Apple Intelligence" – a clever wordplay that didn’t go unnoticed.

"Apple Intelligence" emphasizes broad-appeal AI rather than advanced image and video generation. Apple developed in-house AI models and partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS. Notably, Siri is getting a significant upgrade, both visually and functionally. The virtual assistant now boasts a redesigned logo and a new visual interface – a glowing, colorful light wrapping around the device’s edges during interactions.

Beyond aesthetics, Siri will now understand and respond more naturally, making interactions feel more human-like. The AI assistant can maintain context from one request to the next, enabling accurate follow-up responses. These new AI features will be compatible with the latest Apple devices, including iPhone 15 Pro or newer models with the A17 Pro chip, and iPads and Macs equipped with the M1 chip or newer.
