Apple to Overhaul Operating Sy...Apple plans significant redesigns for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.
In an effort to update the iPhone, iPad, and Mac's user interfaces for a new generation of customers, Apple Inc. is getting ready to launch one of the most significant software overhauls in the company's history.
In order to achieve this, the tech giant is preparing the biggest update to the iPhone since 2013 and the Mac since 2020, according to Bloomberg on Monday, March 10, which cited anonymous sources. According to the source, the upgrade is anticipated to be released later this year as part of iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16.
The company's operating system redesign, according to the Bloomberg report, will include changes to the way icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons look; easier ways to use and control the devices; and new features added to visionOS, the operating system for its mixed reality headset.
According to the source, Apple may be able to increase demand for its devices, which slowed during the pandemic and only slowly recovered, by using the new operating systems to divert attention away from the delays in its artificial intelligence (AI) improvements for its Siri digital assistant. According to the research, users who use Apple products for business, communication, and leisure may get resentful of the redesign.
Apple stated in February that it would incorporate those AI features into its Vision Pro mixed reality headset in April. With support for U.S. English, Apple Intelligence will be made accessible in beta form in the software update visionOS 2.4. Later in the year, support for more languages will be added.
According to reports, Apple informed Reuters on Friday, March 7, that some AI enhancements for Siri would not be made until 2026. The business had previously stated that these improvements would be made to Siri this year. It provided no explanation for the holdup.
