Singapore Airlines to Offer Starlink Broadband on Select Aircraft From 2027

Singapore Airlines will roll out Starlink's high-speed broadband on A350 and A380 aircraft from Q1 2027. The Silicon Review reports on the multi-gigabit satellite WiFi that will let passengers stream, game and work seamlessly from take-off to landing.

Singapore Airlines announced on Monday that it will progressively introduce Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite-based broadband service on its Airbus A350-900 long-haul, A350-900 ultra-long-range, and A380 aircraft starting from the first quarter of 2027.

The upgrade, expected to be completed by the end of 2029, will bring “multi-gigabit” connectivity to the cabin, allowing passengers to stream video, play online games, share content on social media, and send large files just as they would on the ground. The service will be available from take-off to landing, eliminating the frustrating dead zones that plague many existing in flight wifi systems.

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, currently has more than 10,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. Its Aero Terminal can support up to 1 Gbps per antenna, delivering the low-latency, high-speed connection that legacy geostationary satellite systems struggle to provide.

Unlimited complimentary in flight wifi will continue for customers in Suites, First Class, Business Class, PPS Club members, and KrisFlyer members travelling in Premium Economy and Economy. Non-members in the back of the plane will need to sign up for free KrisFlyer membership to enjoy the service.

Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Yeoh Phee Teik, said fast, seamless connectivity is now “an essential part of the travel experience.” Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, added, “Starlink is redefining what is possible for leisure and business travellers alike making every flight more enjoyable and infinitely more connected.”

The carrier’s Boeing 777s is not slated for this initial upgrade. However, the move positions Singapore Airlines at the forefront of the aviation industry’s shift toward satellite-based connectivity, following in the footsteps of airlines like Qatar Airways, which already use Starlink.

As Singapore Airlines prepares to launch SpaceX's Starlink broadband on its A350 and A380 fleets from early 2027, The Silicon Review examines how low Earth orbit technology is finally solving the age-old problem of patchy, slow, and unreliable in-flight Wi-Fi transforming long-haul travel into a seamless extension of the digital workplace and living room.
