Qantas Flights Are About to Redefine Travel: 19 Hours Sydney to London with a Yoga Studio at 35,000 Feet

Qantas has unveiled the Airbus A350 that will fly non-stop from Sydney to London from October 2027, cutting travel time to as little as 19 hours and featuring a world-first inflight Wellbeing Zone with stretch handles, guided exercise, and hydration stations. The Silicon Review asks: could this be the moment air travel finally stops punishing passengers?

The tyranny of distance is about to end. Qantas has revealed the Airbus A350-1000ULR that will fly the world's longest commercial route: Sydney to London non-stop. The journey, once a five-day trek across seven stops, will now take as little as 19 hours and 15 minutes.

Twenty per cent of Qantas flights will follow a route never before taken by an Australian airline a north polar flight path over Alaska, Greenland, and Iceland. This is made possible by Constellation, Qantas's new advanced flight planning system developed with the University of Sydney's Australian Centre for Field Robotics.

Here is what makes these Qantas flights truly groundbreaking. The aircraft has just 238 seats the lowest density of any A350 in the world. Every passenger gets more space. The Wellbeing Zone is a world-first: a dedicated space at 35,000 feet with stretch handles guided exercise, hydration stations, and premium refreshments.

The cabin has been designed around science, not just comfort. Qantas worked with the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre for over a decade to combat jetlag. Circadian lighting mimics sunrise and sunset to "trick" passengers into destination time. Meal service is timed to the body's natural rhythms.

Inside the aircraft, First features six enclosed suites with 80-inch beds and separate reclining armchairs. Business has 52 suites with sliding doors for the first time on Qantas. Premium Economy has been redesigned with ergonomic leg and calf rests. Economy offers more seat pitch than any current Qantas aircraft, with an Economy Plus option featuring 34-inch pitch. Crew rest areas include fully flat beds and a secret compartment next to the galley.

Qantas pilots have already begun training on the first A350 simulator in Sydney, with 40 current A330 pilots making up the initial intake. In total, more than 360 pilots and 1,200 cabin crew will be trained.

The first Qantas flights between Sydney and London will take off in October 2027. Sydney to New York is confirmed as the next route. Qantas has estimated the project could add more than Aud$400 million a year to earnings.

Fares will be about 20 per cent higher than one-stop alternatives, starting at approximately Aud$1,000 in economy and £14,000 in first class.

As Qantas flights prepare to rewrite the rules of long-haul travel, The Silicon Review asks a final question. When you can fly from Sydney to London in under 20 hours with a yoga studio in the sky and zero jetlag, is there any reason to stop anywhere ever again?
