Inscape Data Corporation is a California-based manufacturer of outdoor network appliance products including outdoor Gigabit PoE switch, wired/wireless, and IP video systems. It manufactures total turnkey solutions for outdoor PoE, wired/wireless, and IP-based video surveillance applications. The company serves clients in the United States.

David D Lin founded Inscape Data Corporation in 2004. He currently serves as the CEO/CTO of the company.

The Silicon Review reached out to Mr. Lin, and here’s what he had to say.

Interview Highlights

Q. Why was Inscape Data Corporation born? What pain points did you set out to solve?

Inscape Data was established to serve wireless service operators and was one of the prominent vendors in the early Wi-Fi market. In November 2009, we launched our first generation of LinkPower™ Outdoor PoE (Power over Ethernet) Switch solutions to address the challenges of outdoor networks. Since then, LinkPower™ Outdoor PoE Switch solutions have evolved from a single ‘All-in-One-Box’ IP68 outdoor PoE switch product to a family of outdoor PoE network solutions. The LinkPower Outdoor PoE Switch solutions are developed to deal with harsh climate conditions, i.e., dust, dirt, and rain. Inclement weather conditions can wreak network power, network maintenance, and network reliability.

Q. What more can you tell us about these LinkPower ‘All-in-One Box’ Outdoor PoE Switch solutions?

The LinkPower ‘All-in-One-Box’ Outdoor PoE Switch solutions are based on patented technologies that connect our injectors and PoE/DC converters seamlessly with LinkPower™ Outdoor PoE switches. As noted above, the LinkPower Outdoor PoE Switch solution is a single ‘All-in-One-Box’ IP68 outdoor PoE switch product to a family of outdoor PoE network solutions covering IEEE 802.3 af/at/bt PoE standards, non-standard passive PoE, or direct 5/12/24/48V D.C. power requirements. The LinkPower™ Outdoor PoE network solutions include the following major components, 1) LinkPower™ IP68 Outdoor PoE Switches, 2) LinkPower™ IP68 Outdoor PoE Injectors, and 3) LinkPower™ Standard PoE to Passive PoE/D.C. converters. With these solutions, clients can power devices from 5V to 53V D.C. with standard RJ45 jacks for network applications with high-power I.R. cameras and lower-power Wi-Fi radios or barrel jacks for IoT applications, including smart grid sensors.

Q. In what industries are your clients? Can you provide us with one or two success stories describing the challenges your clients faced and how Inscape helped them overcome those challenges?

We serve several markets, including video security, WIFI WISP, smart city, etc. worldwide. Several large Wi-Fi deployments use our All-in-One-Box IP68 outdoor PoE switch product in San Jose, CA, Youngstown, OH, Tulsa, OK, Hidalgo, TX, and London, UK. All these deployments face the weather and installation challenges mentioned above, and the Wi-Fi radios installed with our outdoor PoE switches are from notable Wi-Fi vendors, e.g., Ruckus, Mimosa, and Siklu. Our customers were facing the challenges of reliable weatherproof outdoor powering solutions. By using our LinkPower Outdoor PoE network solutions, thousands of residential homes in these cities have Wi-Fi networks interconnected using our LinkPower Outdoor PoE Switches.

Q. How does Inscape create and sustain a culture of innovation?

Q. What’s the one thing you want Inscape to be known for?

Inscape Data makes the difference in the Wi-Fi Solution Space by providing the All-in-One-Box LinkPower™ outdoor 802.3af/at/bt managed Gigabit PoE switch Solutions that are small footprint IP68 enclosures, easy to install, stable, and reliable, and the solutions effectively enable a wide range of wired/wireless, I.P. video, and smart city applications, most notably video surveillance systems, campus, and metropolitan Wi-Fi networks, and smart city networks. One notable key product innovation and patented feature in the All-in-One-Box IP68 outdoor PoE switch product is the Hotel Space in the switches. All LinkPower Outdoor PoE Switches come with a handy hotel space that allows integrators to maintain and operate cables and network accessories, e.g., splitters and extenders. Integrators recognize and value all these features and innovations provided by the All-in-One-Box IP68 outdoor PoE switch product.
