Luxer One: Developing the World’s Leading Package Management Solutions

thesiliconreview-arik-levy-founder-luxer-one-2017Our product has gained broad popularity in the multifamily industry because it solves a serious pain for our customers and their residents: Arik Levy, CEO & Founder Luxer One

Any apartment resident can commiserate about the inevitable feeling of dread when you return home to a missed package slip with your name on it. The hassle, time, and money associated with missing or redelivering packages is all too common now that more consumers are opting to buy online and have their purchases delivered. In fact, a typical 200-unit building receives an average of 50-75 packages per day. For those with an inefficient package management system (or none at all), the convenience of online shopping can soon turn to frustration.

In light of the above-mentioned concern, we are thrilled to present Luxer One, the original leader in smart package lockers solutions.

The firm is committed to making life simpler by automating package acceptance and completely solving the package problem. Whether it’s last mile delivery at multifamily properties and offices, or click and collect orders in retail, Luxer One is dedicated to finding the best solution for its customers.

Interview Excerpt: Arik Levy, CEO & Founder

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

The Luxer One story starts with the founding of its sister company, Laundry Locker, which I started in 2005 in San Francisco. The concept was that people could drop off their clothing for dry cleaning or laundry 24/7 in any locker location throughout the city; lockers were placed in laundromats, in parking garages, and at Laundry Locker stores, but most frequently in their apartment buildings. When cleaned clothes were returned to the lockers, the customer would get a mobile notification to pick up their order from the locker. The company successfully brought delivery technology to dry cleaning and it took off. Over time, the Laundry Locker team would visit their apartment building clients and notice packages piling up in lobbies and leasing offices. I realized that I had the technology and know-how to build a locker-based solution to this residential package pile-up problem. And so Luxer One was born.

Tell us about your first product that was launched?

The first product we released was Luxer Lockers, our smart package lockers. The lockers are controlled by an onboard computer and touchscreen. When a carrier such as FedEx or USPS makes a delivery to the lockers, the package recipientis notified by text with a unique pick-up code. Whenever they want, they can input the code onto the touchscreen to trigger the locker containing their package to open.

What kind of mixed responses have you received from your consumers over the years? How have they motivated you to shape your offerings/grow the company?

Our products have always been directly shaped by our customers’ feedback. In addition to Luxer Lockers, we created a brand new product, Luxer Room, when one of our customers asked us to come up with a locker-free solution. AMLI Residential (a multifamily real estate company) came to Luxer One with the same package problem that many apartment properties face today. Their staff was spending almost 4 hours per day managing all their incoming resident packages. They wanted a solution that was more robust than package tracking software, less expensive, and took up less dedicated space than package lockers. Luxer One created the Luxer Room automated package room solution, where our touchscreen controls the doorstrike of a package room rather than lockers. Carriers enter their special access code to gain entry into the room and make deliveries to labeled shelves inside; residents can only get into the room if they have a package awaiting them inside, using the one-time use code we send them. Today, AMLI is able to associate increases in resident retention and positive ratings directly to their adoption of Luxer Room. They have the Luxer Room system with over 50 properties nationwide.

What do you feel are the reasons behind:

Your product’s popularity – Our product has gained broad popularity in the multifamily industry because it solves a serious pain for our customers and their residents. But the reason why our solution, in particular, has been the winning option is that of our 100 percent package acceptance mission. Our solution is the only one on the market that solves for standard package delivery as well as its edge cases, like oversized or overflow of deliveries. As such, our customers get a complete solution that’s designed for their real-life experiences with package delivery.

Your consistent growth as an organization – We credit our growth to our team. While there is an element of industry demand driving our growth, it is not the sole driver. We have been able to grow 400 percent since the beginning of this year because of our team’s dedication to customer service at every stage, whether it’s during the sales and marketing phase or ongoing operations.

If you have to list five factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?

Our team – Our team is made up of tremendously talented people across the country who are committed to our mission of 100 percent package acceptance. We have a very stringent hiring process and low turnover in our company. Our team is our number one asset and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

Our core values – We have four core values that we measure ourselves against internally. We review our new hires to fit these characteristics and push ourselves to display them in our work every day.

Our spirit of innovation – When we see a market opportunity, we relish the opportunity to solve it. Building and constant improvement is part of our DNA.

Our experience – We have been building delivery software for lockers for a very long time. In fact, we were the first to patent many features in both our locker hardware and software. The Luxer One team and product are as strong as they are today thanks to our experience building Laundry Locker first and taking that experience to Luxer One.

Our commitment to process – What allows us to ‘work smart’ is our development of processes around most tasks, paired with an openmind to change those processes when they need improvement. We are more efficient and less prone to error with this methodology.

‘It is difficult to start a venture. But far more difficult to maintain it’ - How would you and your team interpret this saying?

Creating a company that is built to last is not an easy thing. First you need to have a great product, which is an area where we have excelled. Then it is about putting in place a great team, and solid processes that can support this growth. We have used a system called EOS to help us define how we run our company and it has been instrumental in our success.

What drives/inspires you to excel in your field of business?

Building businesses is what motivates me. I like to take great ideas and build them into great companies. I like to take great people and turn them into great leaders. Whether it is employees or customers, seeing all the people’s who life you influence with a business you have built is the most rewarding gift.
