The Silicon Review reached out to Ty Culver, Client Development Director at CulverCareers, and here’s what he had to say.

Interview Highlights

What circumstances or events led to the creation of CulverCareers? Please brief us about the history so far.

In 1979, our founder, Tim Culver, saw a need for staffing and recruiting services in the growing market of southern California. As the company expanded up the West Coast and throughout Middle America, the reputation for strong service, great talent, and high integrity expanded. CulverCareers has been a national firm for over 40 years and represented some of the strongest brands in the US, including Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Office Depot, Target, Paychex, ADP, and Johnson & Johnson. We helped rapidly expanding firms in California originally and then helped them go national. When we started with these firms they were small, growing, and virtually unknown.

Q. As an executive search firm, what are CulverCareers’ key focus areas?

Our focus is executive search and retention programs. For executive search, our focus is revenue-generating roles (sales and marketing). We represent companies of any size and any industry that are based anywhere in the world. Typically they fall into two buckets: 1) They are growing and need help hiring fast and 2) They have an extremely tricky position that needs additional help filling. For retention programmes, we help clients to improve their employee benefits, health and wellness initiatives, and executive benefit solutions to attract, retain and reward their key people.

Q. CulverCareers is ranked in the top 1% of executive search firms in North America. What strategies did you implement to achieve this feat?

Our holistic approach during the last decade has placed us among the top one percent of executive search firmsin North America. We see ourselves as an extension of our clients’ brand and an extension of their recruiting arm. The employee experience is at the forefront of our process and we constantly focus on strong hires that perform well long term.

Q. Tell us about the CulverCareers team. What value do they bring to the company?

Our value is three things:

Increase the bench of candidates: Our ability to target both passive and active candidates and increase the amount of quality, qualified candidates is hands down our number one value.

Decrease time to hire: We are taking the front end of the recruiting process off of our clients’ plates and putting them onto ours. We screen and vet all candidates, cast a large net and only submit the top tier. This typically leads to a quick and streamlined hiring process.

Third-party endorsement and services: We boast one of the highest NPS scores in the industry for both candidate satisfaction and client satisfaction. Our clients are aware that we represent their businesses and product with the utmost integrity, honesty, and transparency. Moreover, we are one of the few firms that help clients with health & wellness and retention & reward programs, and consulting. Our partnership and programs have allowed many companies to grow into recognizable names in North America.

Q. Can you provide us with one or two success stories describing the challenges your clients faced and how CulverCareers helped them overcome those challenges?

A UK-based access control company struggling to gain market share in the US approached us. It wanted to shift its strategy from a distribution sales model to a direct salesforce. We helped the company hire 12 Regional Sales Managers across the US over two years and it’s now a strong name in the access control and security space. We have continued to assist its hiring needs in other areas as they continue to grow.

The world's largest manufacturer of networking hardware approached us. It started with us 20 years ago when they entered the US market. We have helped it hire in the following divisions: sales, marketing, product, and engineering.

Q. What new endeavors is CulverCareers currently undertaking?

CulverCareers continues to assist growing companies in North America that are looking to expand its sales and marketing teams while also helping those clients implement programs that can help attract, retain and reward their people for years to come.
