SR 20 Fastest Growing Telecommunication Companies

Winning more customers with technology: PEG Bandwidth

The US Wireless Carriers are continually upgrading their wireless networks to 4G and beyond. The need for highly-scalable, efficient bandwidth and fiber infrastructure is seemingly never-ending. Imagine a single source providing site acquisition and construction to cell site backhaul!

Established in 2009, PEG Bandwidth is a preeminent provider of bandwidth and infrastructure solutions, including cell site backhaul and Small Cell as a Service for wireless operators and Ethernet, Wavelengths and Dark Fiber for telecom carriers and enterprises. The company focuses on four main challenges faced by the telecommunication industry:

For its beneficial end-to-end services, the company was named the fastest growing Telecommunication Services Company by INC. Magazine in 2014. On asking the reason behind the success Rich Ruben, Vice Chairman of PEG Bandwidth, says “The company is built on a model serving our customer’s more difficult problems and that really resonates with the customers. It’s all about doing difficult things and giving maximum performance and making sure we are able to live on our purpose”.

With over 3,613% revenue growth from 2011, PEG Bandwidth the company is currently serving 18 states throughout the southern, central and northeastern US. The company focuses on small markets and rural areas where fiber is typically hard to source. It aims on developing rural markets as most companies focus on Tier 1 markets. The dedicated team of infrastructure specialists is always ready to solve different network challenges from turnkey small cell and front-haul solutions to macro backhaul needs in lower-tier and rural markets where customers are struggling to find reliable, scalable and affordable solutions.

The company’s positioning in their respective domain
The company has positioned itself as a one-stop shop for wireless providers. With its excellent team, the company is always ready to solve Wireless Carrier’s most difficult network challenges. The CEO of the company said in this context, Mike Friloux, President and Chief Executive Officer of PEG Bandwidth, says “We are technology-agnostic as well, meaning that if construction of fiber to a particular location is not cost-effective, PEG Bandwidth will leverage a wireless, point-to-point radio solution.” They are constantly testing new technologies in their laboratory to get more powerful and unique solutions for their clients.

The past, present and the future
Founded by three colleagues in early 2009, PEG Bandwidth received its first backhaul award that summer. In receiving this award, the company also secured $15 million in equity funding from Associated Partners, LP, a Philadelphia-based private equity firm. The funding triggered a period of tremendous growth for the company as they built a huge customer base and continued to add new cell site locations where it provided its backhaul solution. Now, they are focused on marketing their bandwidth and infrastructure services to other large telecom businesses in a wholesale environment.

PEG Bandwidth’s growing infrastructure spans almost 15,000 fiber route miles, connecting almost3,000 cell site locations and has local access to 2,600 municipalities.

As the company expands in to the non-wireless space, they already have completed a couple of acquisitions, such as InLine in Mississippi. They are in the process of finalizing another deal but it has not closed yet. These acquisitions will help broaden PEG Bandwidth’s reach into the carrier and enterprise space. With 15,000 miles of network it is a great opportunity for the company to serve other customers with fiber.
