Google Rolls Out Audiobooks in Its Play Store
The Silicon Review
24 January, 2018

The wizard of the technology industry, Google has pulled another rabbit out of its hat. The tech giant has made an announcement that it has added an all-new audiobook section to its Play Store.

Following the model of Apple’s iBook, Google is allowing customers to buy audiobooks without any subscription. The audiobooks have been made available in 45 countries and in nine languages and also offering support for Android, iOS and Google Home speakers, which mean people can now play audiobooks on their home smart speakers, continue it in their car, and keep listening to it on their phone. The audiobooks come with features like tempo and sleep timer.

Greg Hartrell, Head of Product Management, Google Play Books said about Google Assistant support in a blog post:

Just say "Ok Google, read my book" to listen to your favorite audiobook hands-free with the Google Assistant on your phone or speaker, like Google Home. Try "Ok Google, who is the author?" if you need a refresher, or "Ok Google, stop playing in 20 minutes" to set a timer for bedtime reading.

Also, to make the launch of its Audiobook more interesting and worthy, Google is offering discounts on lots of audiobook titles - Ready Player One is $6.99, Fire and Fury is $8.99, and Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is $7.77. This is not all - Google is also offering 50% flat on the first audiobook purchase. The audiobooks can be shared with the same library rules that work for other media content Google sells.
