“Thud!”- Elon Musk’s next expedition

The way Elon Musk thinks is becoming more and more unpredictable and crazier.

 “Thud!”, yes, this what Musk tweeted on Wednesday, with no context, resulting in speculations for hours that it was just another one of Musk’s now-signature idiosyncratic Twitter moments. Then, later on, he explained in his following tweet that it was the name of his new intergalactic media empire!

But everyone is unsure if Musk is joking about this, or if he’s half-joking now and will end up making his words come true later. However some sources say that Musk has hired staff for a new media venture related to comedy and dark humour. Former members of The Onion, the news website that writes media news in a taunting and funny way, including the editor-in-chief, Cole Bolton and executive editor Ben Berkeley, jumped ship from the publication last year, citing differences with the management.

According to a report from the Daily Beast, Musk has already hired half a dozen editors with ties to The Onion as part of a secret project that may end up being a rival satirical humour site. The Daily Beast said it “can confirm” that former Onion editor-in-chief Cole Bolton and executive editor Ben Berkley have been working on the Musk-financed project in Los Angeles since last year after the two left The Onion because of differences with its management team.

Musk is known to be a long-time fan of The Onion, and has referenced the site in some of his tweets. The Daily Beast also said that Musk inquired about purchasing The Onion back in 2014. The Onion, and two of its sister sites, Clickhole and A.V. Club, ended up being purchased by Univision in 2016.

“It’s pretty obvious that comedy is the next frontier after electric vehicles, space exploration, and brain-computer interfaces,” Musk said. “Don’t know how anyone’s not seeing this.”
