Facebook’s Chief Security Officer resigns from the post

Facebook’s Chief Security Officer resigns from the post
The Silicon Review
02 August, 2018

Alex Stamos, Facebook’s Chief Security Officer who joined in 2015, has made an announcement that he is leaving the company. His next job will be a full-time professor and researcher at Stanford University. Facebook is having a major setback on his resignation as the company has been losing eminent leaders over the last half a year and it is facing ongoing problems regarding user data security.

“While I have greatly enjoyed this work, the time has come for me to move on from my position as Chief Security Officer at Facebook,” Alex mentioned in a public Facebook post. The high profile Chief Security Officer, Alex Stamos who is a well-respected person within the security community has decided to part ways with the social media giant. Allegedly, Stamos had created friction within the company because of all the disinformation drama. He was reportedly not in favor of the steps Facebook had taken in the investigation of the state-sponsored disinformation seeded by Russia.

The rumor of his resignation from the company is in the air since last year December but back then he denied all the rumors and continued his work for Facebook. But, apparently, he had a role shift in March and he was assigned to look after election security.

This is not the first time Stamos is quitting a company because of policy disagreement. He reportedly left Yahoo because he was not happy about the company’s choice to allow the U.S intelligence access to certain user data.

His last working day at Facebook will be August 17th and he has mixed feelings about his decision. Though he will miss his friends and co-workers in the company, he finds himself fortunate to contribute his knowledge and experience as a professor.
