SpaceX Renames its Big Falcon Rocket Spaceship
The Silicon Review
21 November, 2018

The name of the forthcoming passenger spaceship of SpaceX was changed from Big Falcon Rocket to Starship on Tuesday. There is no information about the reason behind the name change but Elon Mask has revealed about the company’s rocket booster, which will be named as Super Heavy.

SpaceX made an announcement in September this year about its first passenger, who signed to travel on the ship. The name of the passenger is Yusaku Maezawa. As per plans, SpaceX will start the mission in 2023 if they manage to completely build the spaceship.

Earlier, before Starship, the spaceship was renamed two times, i.e.Mars Colonial Transporter and Interplanetary Transport System.

Starship will carry thepassenger on commercial flights and then fly around the moon. The spacecraft is due to replace the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy vehicles. The cost of its developmentis as high as $5B.

Elon Mask did not reveal anything about the spacecraft’s design, but earlier told that the spacecraft will have the capacity to carry 100 people to Mars. The spacecraft will not land on the moon, will just travel around the far side of the moon and will be returning to earth.

Till now, only 24 people have made it to the moon (all of them are Americans); out of the 24, only 12 has landed on the moon. The last time when humans landed on the moon or went beyond low-Earth orbit was in 1972, the mission was carried by NASA’s Apollo 17.
