Waymo’s autonomous cars go completely driverless for the first time
The Silicon Review
03 November, 2018

It would seem as though Waymo’s is currently leading in the race to roll out commercially available autonomous cars. It is now the first company to deploy completely driverless cars on the streets of California. Among all the companies, Waymo, a division owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. is the first one to be given a permit to test the autonomous cars without a human driver behind the wheel. But the California Department of Motor Vehicles has stipulated strictly defined limits within which the cars are to be tested.

This is definitely a milestone in the entire automobile industry. This is one of those incidents that will go down in the annals of history as the one which paved the way for groundbreaking revolution. It can be compared to the time when Bill Gates and Paul Allen began working for software for the Altair 8800, or when Steve Jobs unveiled the first Macintosh.

The cars will be driving and around Waymo’s Silicon Valley headquarters. The company’s cars have completed over 10 million miles of driving for the autonomous system to acquaint itself with all the nuances of driving on busy streets. Although Waymo is the first one to have this distinction, it certainly won’t be the last, as there are other companies that are not too far behind to get their own cars out.

This can change the face of the entire automobile industry as we know it.
