This New Tracker Can Protect Rhinos against Poaching
The Silicon Review
28 December, 2018

Sigfox, a France-based technology company has created a new tracker for monitoring the movements of Rhinos.  The device will help conservationists to keep an eye on the endangered species and protect them from being harmed.

Due to the increase in poaching in the past century, the majority of the wildlife organizations have started to depend on technology in order to help protect species which are getting extinct very fast.

In the past, many devices like drones, cameras, motion sensors, and electronic bracelets have been deployed to safeguard endangered species, but have no proved to be effective in the nations concerned.

The new tracker is equipped with sensors and has the capability to pinpoint the exact location of rhinos with the help of the company’s technology over a longer period of time. The sensor will inform the park rangers about any rhinos approaching towards the areas vulnerable to poaching. It can be used to send information to the rescue teams and get them to the location in real time.

The company’s network utilizes a unique radio signal which provides more security than any other tracking devices. The sensor only works only when it has to convey any data, making it resistant to interception by poachers.

In order to develop a new sensor, the company also worked with different specialized groups and conservationists.  The company also partnered with non-profit organizations like the Jane Goodall Institute. The organization safeguards primate habitats, in the use of the latest technologies for conservation.
