Instagram: Vishal Shah Replaces Adam Mosseri as New Head of Product

In a new development, Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram confirmed promotion of its director of product management Vishal Shah as the head of product. It was announced on Monday.

The position was previously held by Adam Mosseri who was appointed following the heavy-weight exits ofco-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in September, this year. It’s still not clear why the co-founders left so abruptly.

“I am thrilled that Vishal Shah is Instagram’s new Head of Product. Vishal is an experienced manager with deep product knowledge who lives out Instagram’s values of people first, simplicity, and craft. He is a great addition to our leadership team and I look forward to working with him in this new role,”Mr.Mosseri said.

Mr. Shah, who joined Instagram three years ago, headed consumer, business, and revenue products divisions, including search, explore, Ads, IGTV, and shopping as the director of product management.

Instagram’s parent company Facebook is under fire as it has allegedly failed to safeguard user data, although that did not interfere withMr. Shah’s appointment in any way. The parent company has been defending against effortsto malign its image internationally.

Like Instagram, Facebook also has witnessed many executive departures this year that includes co-founders of messaging app WhatsApp (again Facebook-owned) Jan Koum and Brian Acton.
