The World’s first Autonomous Ride Hailing Services is here

Autonomous cars are finally into the action. Google worked on the technology for almost ten years and now the tech giant has launched its self-driving ride-hailing services. The autonomous car is known as a spin-off and the ride-hailing service is dubbed as Waymo One.

The new services rolled on on Dec 5. In 2009, Waymo, being a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. started its secretive project within Google. From the day of the project started, its self-driving cars robotically logged more than 10 million miles on roads. It drove itself through different cities which included Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan and a few others. The car was involved with very fewer accidents–mostly fender benders.

The new taxi services will ferry the users around without any human on the wheel. Users can use the service through the car’s dedicated app and the car will drive them to their dedicated address.

Currently, the service is limited to a few groups of people. People who are currently engaged in the Waymo’s Riders program will be able to have access to the new services.  The programme started in last year. The service is now only available in Phoenix, Arizona and will cover a 100-square mile area inside the city, which also includes neighbouring cities of Gilbert, Tampa, Chandler and Mesa.

Apart from the new launch, this summer, a different autonomous car company called Drive.ai has provided short–distance rides to all commuters in Texas, Frisco and Arlington.
