Stephen Hawking – The Inspiration Lives On

Stephen Hawking – The Inspiration Lives On
The Silicon Review
15 March, 2018

Stephen Hawking, one of the most rational minds of our time passes away, leaving behind an enormous reserve of knowledge and thought-provoking wonder. Hawking’s bestseller “A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes,” published in 1988 has sold more than 10 million copies and inspired a documentary film by Errol Morris.

His biggest contribution to science, being “Hawking Radiation” churned up the biggest debate of recent times among physicists world-over. The debate is whether there is a total loss of information of “matter” that enters the black hole. Hawking Radiation solves a part of a relation between quantum physics and macro physics but the entire link between these two worlds is still a mystery to scientists.

Hawking has inspired his fellow physicists and the world, in general, to think beyond what was previously presumed to be impossible. May it be the idea of “Multiverse”, “Time Travel”, “Worm Holes” and so many other theories that sound to you, if you are a Layman, like a plot of a sci-fi movie.

Although Hawking incurred a serious degenerative condition during his youth, his courage and curiosity along with his excellent sense of humor kept him going for 7 decades. He is now currently believed to have been the longest surviving individual with Lou Gehrig's disease.

His demise is a huge loss to the entire world and he can only be honored by continuing what he started and living on the principle that he lived i.e. “Question everything...” in his TV series titled “Into the Universe with Stephan Hawking”, he introduces himself as “A physicist, cosmologist and something of a dreamer...” it is here that we realize that having dreams is a necessity to achieve everything else.
