Taster Introduces the Concept of Kitchen Restaurants to the Online Food World
The Silicon Review
28 June, 2018

Taster, a French startup, is building a platform for online food delivery. They have come up with the idea of building kitchen restaurants in a few cities. The concept behind this is to not have any tables but only a kitchen that can prepare food as well as deliver it. Amongst the various foods startups like Just Eat and Grubhub that introduced listings of various restaurants in the neighborhood for delivery. Other concepts like Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Postmates and Glovo have helped introduce quite a few new restaurants for placing orders for home delivery practice. Before this, there were not many regular restaurants that would accept online orders and deliver.

Most restaurants have received quite a positive response for undertaking food delivery. However, they are unable to tap this market entirely mainly because they do not have the capacity to take up excessive additional orders and opening up a new restaurant is not a cake walk. Deliveroo realized this issue and started investing in the concept of food trucks that are simply containers in abandoned parking lots.

Taster, on the other hand, has been trying to build its own chain of restaurants with a curated menu and an unprecedented focus on the food and kitchen instead of tangible aesthetics. They have set up three restaurants in Paris, Madrid, and Lille proving them to be quite an innovative player in the restaurant industry. They also have a major edge over the others with respect to cost since they do not need to rent big spaces or a huge staff for they are just a kitchen and not a restaurant that hosts meals hence proving to be quite feasible for their business.
