China Will No Longer Have Twitch: Reports Say That the Recent Popularity Surge is the Reason
The Silicon Review
24 September, 2018

China is a huge region and with recent observation, it is shown that the surge in popularity of online streaming services has increased due to the 2018 Asian Games. This news was out through various reports but it’s not certain if it’s actually true. The event was surely a huge success since China has managed to take home two gold medals. With the increase in popularity, the games such as Arena of Valor, PES, League of Legends and Hearthstone were part of the event. The footages of the events were not broadcasted in China’s CCTV broadcaster and it is because of this reason many started streaming it on Twitch. It suddenly reached the third spot in the App Store of China in the free app category. Was this bad news to China? Because immediately after this, China blocked both the Twitch app and the website so now the app isn’t available in mainland China.

As of now, there are no reasons as to why Twitch has been blocked because no news on the reason has popped up. Further, Google, Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook are also not available in China. So, Twitch just joins the list, we are yet to get any sort of news and reasons for this decision and for that we will have to wait to see if anything pops up.
