Gartner predicts the rise of SASE in edge computing

Gartner predicts the rise of SASE in edge computing
The Silicon Review
29 October, 2019

Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) is being considered as the next big thing in enterprise networking. Earlier this year, SASE was introduced as a new category by Gartner and other network experts. This category covers network security and WAN edge into a cloud-based, as-a-service delivery model. Gartner stated that the unique convergence is driven by consumer demand for scalability, flexibility, pervasive security, simplicity, and low latency. Only a few vendors are known to deliverthe comprehensive technology required toimplement SASE. Even though the technology is still in infancy, there are a handful of SD-WAN providers like Juniper, Cato Networks, Versa, and Fortinet, who are anticipated to compete in the SASE market.

Due to complex network architecture, networking and security devices are usually not procured from different vendors. But the growing edge computing and digital business requirements have made the organizations shift to cloud services. An architectural transformation is fast approaching to meet the demands of the mobile workforce, and Gartner predicted that after SASE adoption, the existing network and security model would become obsolete. SASE will combine the elements of network security and SD-WAN into a single cloud-based data, and it will support all types of edges, including mobile, cloud, WAN, and edge computing.
