The Silicon Review
22 March, 2019

Comcast, a USA-based telecommunication company, will roll out a new internet streaming video service, the Reuters reported on Thursday. The company is targeting those viewers who are switching over to the internet to watch movies and TV shows rather than purchasing the expensive TV packages.

The launch plan comes at a time when big player such as Apple Inc is expected to start its own TV and video service.

Dubbed as Xfinity Flex, the $5/ month service will be availableonly to the company’s internet subscribers. The service will be available to the users from March 26th, 2019.

The $5 plan will provide a leased internet connection to the users; a 4K HDR-ready box and voice-activated remote control. Online entertainment sites such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Showtime, HBO, and other free online movies and TV shows will be available in the plan.

Users will also get to enjoy live streaming services from platforms such as YouTube, Cheddar, Tubi TV, ESPN3, Pluto, and Xumo. Furthermore, there will be rent and buy option for TV shows and movies. The music streaming will be available through the likes of XITE, Pandora, and iHeartRadio.

The service will also allow users to operate security cameras and other smart home devices via the TV. The integrated personalised program guide will help users to find their favourite movies, TV shows and music.

During the fourth quarter, the company added a net 351,000 internet customers; hence, the revenue for the segment increased by 10 percent, as per reported in January.
