A team of scientists from a German University has created transparent human organs by using a new technique, Reuters reported on Wednesday. The research work was conducted by the members ofLudwig Maximilians University and was led by Ali Erturk.

The team used a technique where a solvent helped to make the organ’s transparent. After that, the scientists were able to capture the entire structure of the organ including blood vessels, and cells once the organ was scanned by lasers inside a microscope.

With the help of the blueprint technique, the scaffold of the organ was printed out.  Once the process was completed, the 3D printer was loaded with stem cells. The stem cells which served as ink. Itwas injected into the right position to make organs functional.

Although 3D printing is already deployed to create spare parts for the industry, people familiar with the matter said that the new development marks an achievement for 3D printing in the field of medical sciences.

Till now, the detailed cellular structure was lacking in 3D printed organs because the image produced in them was from MRI machines or computer tomography.

Over the next 2-3 years, the team intends to begin by developing a bioprinted pancreas. The team also sought to create a Kidney within a period of 5-6 years.

The new development will be successful only if it shows positive results on animals, the bioprinted organs must work inside the animal’s system. After that, clinical trials could begin within the next 5-10 years.
