Self-Driving Car Technology: Fiat Chrysler in a Deal with Aurora
The Silicon Review
10 June, 2019

Fiat and Renault did break up their merger deal and Fiat had to do something about the future of its company. It eventually reached out to a start-up that is based in California called Aurora Innovation. The project is for an agreement to source self-driving technology. Aurora is no ordinary company; it was founded back in 2017. Former executives who were part of Uber, Google and Tesla started the company. Aurora is currently in progress in software and hardware development. This will enable cars to drive themselves. Already there are test vehicles in Pittsburgh, Palo Alto, California, and San Francisco. For now, according to reports Fiat Chrysler is planning to put “Aurora Driver” into delivery vans. It is a system that functions on commercial vehicles. For now, there is no news on when it will be on the roads, but we will get the update soon, according to sources.

Fiat Chrysler’s CEO, Mike Manley did say that Aurora has a unique skill set combined with advanced and purposeful technology that complements and enhances Fiat’s approach of creating an environment with self-driving. We will have to wait and see how things turn out in the future for Fiat and Aurora.
