Apple Inc is reportedly developing in-screen fingerprint readers, Bloomberg confirmed. The technology will work in concert with the Face ID is expected to be ready by 2020, or maybe 2021.

The Cupertino-based giant recently removed the home button from its new series of iPhones. There are many competitors such as Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, and others who have installed in-screen fingerprint readers on their smartphones.

Officials from Apple were not immediately available to comment.

In iPhone X, XS, XR, and XS Ma, there is facial recognition security called the Face ID. As per an announcement which would be made on Sept.10, the company will unveil a new Face ID, which can allow users to unlock user’s smartphone, help log into apps, and use Animoji just by looking at their phones.

According to the company, Face ID is more effective than fingerprint readers, including the touch ID, which is available in iPhone8. On its Face ID page, it stated that “The probability that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone or iPad Pro and unlock it using Face ID is approximately 1 in 1,000,000 with a single enrolled appearance”.

But Apple may offer smartphones with either face or fingerprint. Bloomberg says the 2020 iPhone models will support Touch and face ID.
