General Motors (GM) has joined hands with Google to power some of its upcoming 2022 vehicles with Android operating system for their infotainment systems.

In light of the partnership, people who would drive the future models of Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and other GMC cars will reap the benefits of Google Maps and Google Assistant for making phone calls, browsing radio stations, sending texts, and more without plugging in their smartphones.

Many of the GM customers wish to have the embedded car experience, says Yaseer Mirza, senior product manager Of GM’s connected car platform.

According to Haris Ramic, the products leadfor Android Automotive, the partnership will see both the companies co-developing a “blended” version of their creations.

Both Mr. Ramic and Mr. Mirza did not share anything about the specifications of the new development, considering it as just the beginning.

It’s not only Google who has been catalysing to partner with automakers for making cars smarter; Microsoft has joined hands with Automakers such as Kia Motors, Ford, and Hyundai to connect their vehicles and Amazon is working with Toyota, Ford, and Audi to install Alexa on their vehicles.

Currently, Android Auto and Apple Carplay are available in more than 400 car models across the world. In spite of the new partnership, GM will not stop offering Apple Carplay in its vehicles. However, the partnership would look to offer a more seamless way to stay connected while driving.
