Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, announced the initiative in 2019.

Bluesky, a decentralized social media protocol being developed by Twitter, has announced the creation of a banned list of racial slurs that will not be allowed to be used as usernames on the platform. The list, which contains over 3,000 different slurs and other offensive terms, is meant to prevent hate speech and promote a safer and more inclusive online environment. The banned words from the list were chosen from a range of different sources, including academic studies, user feedback, and community translation efforts. Bluesky is a project that aims to create an open, decentralized social media protocol that anyone can use to build their own social media platform.

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, announced the initiative in 2019. The goal of Bluesky is to create a more democratic social media ecosystem that's free from the control of any one company or government. The banned list of racial slurs on Bluesky is just one example of the steps being taken by social media companies to address issues of hate speech and discrimination on their platforms. However, experts argue that this is not enough, as implicit biases may still exist in moderation algorithms and AI tools. Nonetheless, it is a positive step forward in the ongoing fight against online hate speech.
