GM to Begin 2027 Chevy Bolt Pr...General Motors boosts U.S. electric vehicle production, investing $4 billion in factories for the 2027 Chevy Bolt.
General Motors announces that production of the next-generation 2027 Chevy Bolt will begin later this year, along with plans to invest in three U.S. factories. They invest $4 billion on three units for the 2027 Bolt EV, a new gas-powered Blazer, and a budget-friendly electric vehicle.
In 2023, General Motors said that a second version of their reasonably priced electric vehicle would be available in 2025, as it was wrapping up the production of the first-gen Chevy Bolt EV and EUV. Now, GM finally announced that the next-gen Bolt will drop for the 2027 model year. GM is giving a fresh version to the outdated mid-size SUV. Starting in 2027, the company will begin building the gas-powered version of the Blazer at its plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The company intends to expand the manufacturing of gas-powered and electric vehicles in the United States over the next two years by investing around $4 billion in three factories. The Fairfax Assembly facility in Kansas City, Kansas, which GM claims will start manufacturing the 2027 Chevy Bolt EV by the end of 2025, is one of the locations getting a fresh upgrade. GM stated that it plans to invest more in the Fairfax factory in order to create a next-gen “affordable EV” down the road. Currently, GM’s plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee builds the Cadillac Lyriq, Vistiq EVs, and the XT5 SUV. Also, production of the gas-powered Chevy Blazer there will begin in 2027.
GM had planned to start building the Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV at its Orion Assembly plant in Michigan in late 2024. However, the company has now changed its plans. Instead, the plant will begin making gas-powered full-size SUVs and light-duty pickup trucks in early 2027. This shift shows that GM wants to move production of some of its best-selling and most profitable vehicles back to the U.S. Right now, many of those models are made in Canada and Mexico.
