AccessGrid Raises $4.4M to Tur...AccessGrid secures $4.4M in seed funding to scale its mobile access platform, enabling smartphones to securely function as key fobs for office doors, gates, and equipment.
AccessGrid, a startup specializing in mobile physical access, has raised $4.4 million in a seed funding round to accelerate the replacement of traditional key fobs and cards with smartphones. The investment was led by Contrary Capital with participation from Y Combinator and several prominent angel investors from the proptech and cybersecurity sectors.
The company's platform transforms a user’s smartphone into a secure, universal credential. Using a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and on-device cryptography, the AccessGrid app communicates with existing door readers and gate systems, granting access without the need for a physical fob, card, or tap. The system is designed for enterprise and commercial property managers, offering centralized management, real-time access logs, and instant credential revocation.
"This funding validates our mission to make physical access as seamless and secure as modern digital authentication," said AccessGrid CEO, Maya Chen. "The phone in your pocket is more powerful and secure than a plastic fob. We're turning it into a universal key for the workplace."
The startup, a recent graduate of Y Combinator's winter 2025 cohort, will use the capital to expand its engineering team, enhance its cybersecurity protocols, and onboard major pilot customers in the corporate office and co-working space segments. The platform integrates with major access control systems like LenelS2, Genetec, and Brivo, aiming for a seamless installation process without requiring extensive hardware swaps.
Investors cited the massive, stagnant market for physical access control ripe for digital disruption as a key driver for the bet. "AccessGrid is tackling a fundamental inefficiency that every business and building manager faces," said a partner at Contrary Capital. "Their approach leverages near-ubiquitous smartphone adoption to create a superior user experience while significantly improving security oversight."
Analysts note the growing trend towards mobile credentials in the proptech space, driven by demand for touchless entry and centralized facility management. AccessGrid’s challenge will be to ensure flawless reliability where a dead phone battery cannot lock a user out and to convince security-conscious enterprises of its robust defense against spoofing.
The startup plans a general availability launch in Q3 2026.
