Why was the company set up? Which verticals are most attracted to your infrastructure performance management platform?

Virtual Instruments was created to provide real-time insight into highly complex virtualized data center infrastructure. As IT organizations moved from client/server architectures to shared, virtualized and hybrid cloud-based approaches, a need arose to provide comprehensive, real-time, vendor-independent visibility into the performance, availability, and utilization of the corresponding IT infrastructure supporting business-critical applications. 

Virtual Instruments infrastructure performance monitoring solutions are used across all industries, with predominant adoption by financial services, insurance, retail/e-commerce, cloudservice providers, healthcare, manufacturing and technology providers.

Tell us about your first product that was launched?

We launched VirtualWisdom in 2009 as the industry’s first real-time monitoring product for Storage Area Networks (SANs) and virtualized data centers. It experienced high demand from Global 1000 companies that had been experiencing SAN-storage related failures. We expanded to monitoring other key  infrastructure components over the years.

What were the grounds on which you have expanded your company and its  offerings over the years?

Virtual Instruments has expanded in multiple directions. Over the years, we have added new sources of monitoring data by expanding the numbers of IT components that we monitor and analyze. For example, in 2016, we added Network Attached Storage (NAS) support to our storage monitoring portfolio. We added Microsoft HyperV and IBM PowerVM support in 2014. We are now adding support for containers and hyperconverged solutions this year via our Xangati acquisition. We have also expanded into a subscription business model with our new Applied Analytics offerings, which provide a new level of actionable insight that was previously not available in the IT industry. 

How do you and your company contribute to the global IT platform and society at large?

We ensure the performance and availability of key business-critical applications across the global IT landscape. We monitor everything from credit card transactions, cell phone activations, supply chain management, insurance claims processing, stock transactions, to cloud hosting.  Consumers around the globe are able to access their accounts and data in a very timely fashion thanks to Virtual Instruments.

Do you have any new products ready to be/getting ready to be rolled out into the market?

Before the end of 2017, we will be announcing new products resulting from the October 2016 Virtual Instruments acquisition of Xangati.  These new products will extend our VirtualWisdom infrastructure performance monitoring platform with new sources of monitoring data and a broader set of advanced analytics to help our customers better optimize the performance, availability and utilization of their IT infrastructure.

Where do you see you and your company a couple of years from now?

We will be the acknowledged leader in app-centric Infrastructure Performance Management (IPM) solutions providing the bridge between application performance management (APM) products and silo-specific infrastructure performance management tools. We will provide a single view of the health and performance of the infrastructure in the context of the applications it supports.

Philippe Vincent, CEO: Before the merger with Virtual Instruments, Philippe was the CEO of Load DynamiX for nearly 4 years. Philippe brings over 22 years of experience in technology industries. Philippe held senior executive positions with BigFix, IBM and Accenture. During his tenure at BigFix, he led several business functions and drove strategy and operations across the company. He helped drive BigFix to a leadership position in the Systems and Security Management markets, and a successful sale to IBM in 2010. At IBM, Philippe helped lead the integration of BigFix into the Tivoli business unit. Before BigFix, he was a Partner with Accenture’s High Tech strategy practice, and a leader of its Software practice. Philippe began his career with engineering positions at Alcatel and PSA Peugeot Citroen. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, MS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and Diplome d’Ingenieur from ENSAM (France).
