Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV: A New Era of Performance

The Silicon Review - Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV: A New Era of Performance

Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV introduces 1,000+ kW, axial flux motors, and 5-minute charging pushing electric performance into uncharted territory.

When Mercedes-AMG says the future of speed is electric, the concept car GT XX EV makes that promise hard to doubt. This four-door performance flagship isn’t just an EV it’s the next chapter in the AMG playbook, with a powertrain that feels like it belongs in science fiction, yet within reach. Under its low, fastback body sit two High Performance Electric Drive Units with three axial flux motors two at the rear, one at the front delivering more than 1,000 kW of power. That’s about 1,340 horsepower, or roughly the pulling strength of 1,340 thoroughbred horses ("hot-blooded" horses which performs with maximum exertion) running together. It’s enough to push the GT XX past 224 mph about the same speed a commercial jet is moving right before takeoff while still having room for four passengers. And it can repeat those top-speed bursts over and over without losing performance.

Charging is where the GT XX EV changes the game totally. Using technology developed from Formula 1 and the AMG ONE hypercar, its High Performance Electric Battery has special cooling to keep it efficient, plus a 1,000-amp system that can take in electricity at over 850 kW. In everyday terms, that means you can add about 250 miles of range in just five minutes which is about the same time it takes to grab a coffee, easily eliminating what’s known as “range anxiety,” the worry that your car’s battery will run out before you can find a place to charge. Adding to that a super-sleek shape with a drag coefficient of 0.198, meaning it cuts through air with less resistance than most world-class cyclists, and features like active aero wheels and the MBUX Fluid Light Panel, and you’ve got a car that moves like an Olympic sprinter but cruises like a marathoner, feels Amazing! Isn’t it?

Inside, the GT XX feels like stepping into the future of racing luxury. Instead of leather and silk, it uses LABFIBER biotech materials, so the Pearl Black racing seats are made from high-tech alternatives that feel just as premium but are more sustainable. Each seat is shaped by 3D printing to match a body scan of the driver, like having a custom-made racing suit. The stripped-down cockpit is inspired by Le Mans race cars but dotted with luxuries: hand-machined AMG emblems, glowing high-voltage-themed trim, and steering that reacts faster than a human blink. For American buyers tired of EVs that feel the same, the GT XX is the one that makes every other new car launch look like it’s still in warm-up mode.
