Google has officially announced that from now on, Google Maps would feature Wheelchair accessible routes for the disabled. This new transformation over Maps will make the public transit system much simpler and easier.

The Tech giant released the news on Thursday and stated that their database on Maps includes wheelchair navigation to help the users that can find a route which will accommodate wheelchairs. The process is very simple to use as the users will only have to type the destination on the Maps and then it will direct the users to the wheelchair friendly route accordingly.

To use the new feature, firstly the user must tap the “directions”. After that, select the public transportation icon and tap “options” under the “Routes” section where they can find ‘’Wheelchair accessible” as a new route type. By selecting the option, the list of wheelchair accessible routes will be visible to the users.

Currently, the new feature is available only in the six metro cities,i.e.London, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney. Google will also add other cities in the feature soon.

Google worked with neighborhood travel specialists to outline wheelchair-available ways in these urban areas. Google added that with the assistance of millions of individuals everywhere throughout the globe helped them gather data. Even the enrolled "nearby aides" in the Google Maps application can add accessibility data to Google Maps.

"We're looking forward to working with additional transit agencies in the coming months to bring more wheelchair accessible routes to Google Maps," Rio Akasaka, Product Manager, Google Maps, said in a blog post on Friday. To access the "wheelchair accessible" routes, type your desired destination into Google Maps. Tap "Directions" then select the public transportation icon.
