New York, one of the busiest cities in the world, needs a contactless payment system which works fast enough to keep travellers get going. With this intention, the company is expanding features of its fitness bandto support payment for transit in NYC.

Fitbit has unveiled Fitbit Pay,its contactless payment system, which enables users to pay for their rides on certain buses and subways on the New York City’s MTA system. The city’s contactless fare pilot program starts from tomorrow, and Fitbit is amongst the growing list of device makers that will support tap-to-pay in NYC’s mass transit system. Fitbit collaborates with Google and Apple as its payment system, which will be accepted by the MTA’s pilot program, also called as One Metro New York (OMNY).

For now, Fitbit Pay-enabled wearable like Charge 3 Special Edition, Ionic, and the Versa Special Edition will let users pay for buses servicing Staten Island and 4, 5, and 6 subway lines between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Grand Central in Manhattan. MTA plans to cover the entire network by 2021.

Those who don’t own a contactless payment wearable can use applications on their phones to enter.

In fact, New York is thesecond US city to use Fitbit for transit payment support, followed by Chicago. Few other cities where it is currently offered are Sydney,Vancouver,London,Taiwan, and Singapore.
