Tens of thousands of homes left without electricity and two individual died as a result of the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck northern California.

The earthquake, which happened about 215 miles north of San Francisco, did a lot of damage to many roads. The government has warned people to be ready for aftershocks and closed a number of roads. The earthquake occurred at 2:34 p.m. PST on Tuesday. According to the US Geological Survey that earthquake gave rise to up to 80 minor earthquakes with magnitude between 4.6 to 2.5.

According to the Humboldt County sheriff’s office, 11 people were hurt in addition to two people who died.  Gas pipes were broken by the tremor, leading to leakage. Two more building collapsed, while one structure caught fire and was promptly put out. According to the tracker Poweroutahes.us, more than 32,000 consumers still didn’t have power as of Tuesday evening local time.

Authorities continue to evaluate damage. Utility workers say it could take days to get power back on in the remote, heavily wooded area. According to CBS, the California Highway Patrol has closed the Fernbridge of 1,320 foot, which is a concrete arch bridge over the Eel River, since it has four spots where fractures have been found.
