Study Reveals Widespread Misla...CBD gummies are often mislabeled, raising safety concerns and calls for stronger regulation.
A recent study has discovered that many CBD gummies on the market are inaccurately labeled, leading to questions about product safety and transparency and raising concerns among consumers. Researchers from the University of Kentucky examined a number of cannabidiol gummies and found that they didn’t have accurate labels.
For many years, the U.S. CBD industry has struggled with labeling issues. This new study used a scientific method called liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to assess the actual amount of CBD in each gummy, and the researchers tested 56 well-known CBD gummy products from reputable brands that are available online. The CBD levels in almost 70% of the gummies were off by more than 10% from what was mentioned on the label. When there is no indication of THC on the labeling, Delta-9 THC was present in 39% of the products, and some had delta-8 THC. Although the THC levels were low, they can be enough to cause a positive drug test result. According to the conclusions of the researchers, CBD products lack accurate CBD concentrations, and even gummies from the same container may contain varying quantities. To protect the health and safety of consumers, CBD products need better regulation. The FDA has been under pressure to take action and to set regulations for CBD products.
In 2023, the FDA stated that they were not yet prepared to regulate CBD and that a new regulatory mechanism was required. After two years, not much has changed. The issue of mislabeling CBD products has been a major problem in the UK as well as the USA.
