LimeWire Acquires Generative AI Image Creation Platform BlueWillow

BlueWillow will also serve as the anchor for LimeWire’s future media services.

Former music piracy company LimeWire has announced the acquisition of BlueWillow, a platform specializing in generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based image creation. BlueWillow currently boasts a community of 2.5 million members on Discord and claims to have created more than 500 million images. Under LimeWire ownership, BlueWillow will be integrated into the company’s website to form part of LimeWire’s paid and advertising-based free service tiers for creators. BlueWillow will also serve as the anchor for LimeWire’s future media services.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the acquisition will not include any of BlueWillow’s employees, who are reportedly leaving to work on a new, stealthy AI venture. LimeWire recently diversified its offerings after an earlier plan to build an NFT marketplace for music creators failed to take off. The company has raised about $17.5 million through token sales and was valued at around $60 million earlier this year. The acquisition of BlueWillow provides LimeWire with in-house AI image generation tools, with eventual plans to add video and audio generation to the mix.
